Better late then never update!

I’m alive!

Just been really busy and haven’t had any internet cafe close by! So what has happens since last time. After working at the irish pub part time as a cashier I ended up working full time managing it. It has been really fun thou, yes a bit stressful from time to time, but I work with some good people and meet loads of cool custumer some that has become good mates!

Anyway Wednesday is my last day since I have to go to Arusha to do somethings. And when I return I think the place will have been sold. (sorry but can’t be bothered writing any details today)

I got a job offer with a safari company in Arusha, but since I couldn’t leave the Pub at that time the chance was lost. Bit rubbish but hey, everything happens for a reason!

Since i’ve been working both evenings and mornings everyday I’ve been given the suit at the hotel (the pub has a hotel upstairs) LOVE IT! Amazing ocean view!

Went out for the first night in weeks on saturday – this outdoor restaurant in a very la mykonos style has a party once a month that i heard was amazing so went there with a few mates and as we enter the car park loooads of people is leaving. It had started raining a bit and the dj booth wasn’t covered so the music had stopped.

- Well they still have a bar! – Said the Scottish man who’s always bang on the comments! And ended up dancing for hours (music came back)

Sunday day off was a sunday roast at the english pub!

Rubbish writing today, I know. Just want to let you know i’m alive and enjoying myself! Oh and finally did the go kart thing!

A Tough Path

On this 11h bus ride trough the hole country your guarantied to see some accidents on the way. Some worse then others. And when one has acured it’s not the police you relay on to help you – it’s the kindness of the strangers traveling the same road. On my way I saw 3 accidents.

A truck that had drove in to the ditch (usually the ditch are really steep because when it rains here it proper rains. So if they weren’t that deep the roads would be flooded) but this one wasn’t too bad.

A oil tank that had overturned. The oil was leaking out of the tank and people were stealing it while the angry man was trying to keep them away. The hole road was blocked so the bus took a rough “short cut” and when arriving on the main road again he waved his hand the bus coming the opposite way to get his attention and said “My son take the short cut there has been an accident”

The third one was the worse, and it had happened just a few min earlier. A truck had tried to pass another car and somehow managed to drive off the road and land on it’s side. The passenger had managed to get out of the car and was chocked sitting on the side of the road with a large patch of skin missing from the top of his head. The driver probably (since no one here seems to) didn’t wear a seatbelt and had slid to the middle of the front seat and got stuck there when the truck slammed down. The bus stopped and the driver and a few passengers went outside to help.

A man pulled out branches from a tree to put on the road. It’s a warning sign for cars coming that there has been an accident and to slow down. Another car had a rope tied to it and the steering wheel of the truck pull it out to give the guys who were climbing in the truck more space to be able to free the driver. After a while they managed and the driver walked away. Limpping a bit but seemed fine otherwise.

Roadtrip.

A day just never ends the way you think it will here!

Was in Dar at a houseparty at Danielle’s house in the middle of nowhere and after we’ve all had a bit of a nap it’s 7 in the morning and time to get going. So hungry! So we end up at this roadbar  waiting for them to finish making their chapati (for me) and banana soup (for the rest).

My cousin Ahmed is done, and as we’re eating he’s sleeping in the driving seat with his wet boxers (Daniella has a pool) and the new curtains we picked out for his flat is his blanket.

Sadik sees Ahmed car and stopped – he is on his way to a town called “Bagamojo” ( I know it’s a hilarious name!) to check on his chicken farm! We decide to join! It’s now around 8;30 and my cousin is still out so he goes to Sadiks house (who lives around the corner) to sleep and Me, Sadik, Andy, Luggy, crazy russian girl and Sandra (who we pick up ) heads to Bagamojo, everyone fall a sleep so me, Sadik and Sandra are chatting away listening to music.

We get to Bagamojo an hour or maybe 1 and a half later and see Sadiks farm – really cool actually and we play a bit with the animals, we eat some fruits and then head back to Dar again.

Nut until we arrive back in Dar does the guys in the backseat wake up, not having a clue we’ve been anywhere haha!   We pick up my cousin from his beauty sleep and I have a shower and borrows Sadiks little brothers shirt and then we head to Sandras house have some food and then head to a hotel to watch a football game.

At the hotel they had people doing acrobats and a monkey doing tricks – i was fascinated but everyone else sees this things on daily basic.

Then  we head to a bar/restaurant that i don’t like cos you always have to wait so long for the food. No one listens to my complains and we get seated. We get there and order the standard 3kg meat, 2 plates bananas,  2 plat chips.

The woman says they don’t have any potatoes left for the chips so they sent someone to buy it – and house later still no sign of the potatoes and i’m to hungry and tired to even say “I told you so‘ Anyway we finally get our food and when I got home I fell asleep before my head hit the pillow.

(ps wooow never thought it would be this long, haha so the other story will just have to wait!)

B R E A K F A S T !

I’m a shamed to say that although in the beginning of my time here I would have made Jamie Oliver proud – that is nothing but a memory now. The evenings I’m home to eat dinner I just make noodles – it’s to much of a hassle with veggies when I can’t wash them under running water and besides – they have noodles in vegetable flavour! :)

But my favorite meal of the day is still Breakfast! Today I made the brown porridge – not sure what it really is cos i’ve never seen in it Europe but it’s just taste so much more. Like the difference with white and brown bread.

Every time I visit my aunti Safia (the one with the school), she gives me different fruits – this time around it was Papaya so yesterday i had that with Passion yogurt (with out a doubt my favorite fruit) and brown toast with paradise marmalade (papaya, passion, mango mix) Made here in Arusha. With fresh milk.

I’ve now tried there pineapple (although I did have about half of the jar left when i dropped it r and saw it smash and smear all over the floor) and Paradise. If there is something I’m bringing back home it’s this! Taste like heaaaaven!

Today

Today’s third world issue:I haven’t found a new maid yet.

Today’s luxury problem: Electricity and running water never seems to be around at the same time – Missing a hot shower. Or today – a real shower (poured water over me from a bucket )

Had electricity one evening and I was just so happy! Lately they’ve cut it off in the evening and although reading a book in candle light looks pretty nice it’s very very impractical! Couldn’t wait to jump in bed with my book “The last templar” Thanks bro for leaving it behind!

I promise that the silly magazine are just for the crossword! Haha, oh and white little control with a red button is For KK security - Press that and you’ll have armed men outside the house in no time! (the once you want to have)

Mi Casa es Su Casa!

My African House!

Have been getting loads of questions about how I live here. My mum has built a house here, It’s in an area called “Kwa idi” witch literally means “At Idi” So the story was probably that back in the day a person called Idi own most of the land here and built the first house. So therefor the area was referred to as Idi’s.

It’s 2 ekar land and it’s on a hill so there is a really nice view. Got banana plants and stuff in the garden :) 3 Bedroom, 3 Bathroom, and a nice veranda.
